Considered "entry level" by its maker, the Bergmann Magne turntable ($12,000) is far from basic, incorporating most of the features of Bergmann's higher-priced turntables. The Magne utilizes an air bearing, and its tangential-tracking tonearm also rides on a cushion of air. Its armtube is made of carbon fiber, its 18-pound platter is all aluminum, and its base is a solid block of high-density material. Its air pump operates so silently that it's difficult to know if it's even running.
