Nordost's Frey 2 USB Cable and Adapter

by The Audio Beat | February 21, 2018

ollowing the announcement at CES of its new Red Dawn USB cable, Nordost has introduced two more USB cables. The Frey 2 USB ($599.99), along with the Frey 2 adapter ($274.99), extend the connection options for all Nordost USB cables to products with B and C connectors, while retaining the performance of Nordost's Micro Mono-Filament construction.

The Frey 2 USB cable is the first of Nordost’s USB cables to offer both USB C and 3.0 compatibility, while the Frey 2 USB adapter pairs with cables using Standard-A USB connectors (both 2.0 and 3.0), allowing them to be used with components that require USB C termination.

The Frey 2 USB cable and adapter use Nordost's FEP Micro Mono-Filament technology, which lowers capacitance in order to increase signal speed and bandwidth. Both use solid-core, silver-plated 99.99999% OFC conductors that are precision wound to correspond accurately with USB’s unique hybrid twisted-pair/non-twisted-pair geometry. The conductors are shielded with a dual layer of braid-and-foil shielding to eliminate EMI and RFI. Before being terminated, both cables are cut to mechanically tuned lengths, which Nordost does to reduce internal microphonics and high-frequency impedance resonance.

As with Nordost's other USB cables, the Frey 2 USB and adapter are designed, manufactured and terminated entirely in the USA.
