Lohengrin: VTL's Latest Reference Amplifier
TL's Reference line of high-power tube amps grows by one with the introduction of the Lohengrin monoblocks ($100,000 per pair) at the Munich High End show. The Lohengrin features an output stage the uses eight KT88 tubes capable of delivering 400 watts, while retaining the driver stages and power supply of VTL's higher-powered Siegfried Series II amplifier (both the Siegfried II and S-400 II remain in VTL's Reference line). Lohengrin's design produces a lower output impedance, reducing the necessary transition to the speaker load, and uses a simpler, more effective output transformer. Lohengrin's technical features include zero global negative feedback, broad audio bandwidth (-1dB at 100kHz), and an adjustable damping factor, which provides flexibility for tailoring to the speaker load and listener preference. The amplifier's user interface makes operation intuitive and worry-free. Lohengrin has fully automatic tube biasing and multi-layered fault-sensing systems, which enhance reliability and simplify the management of the output tubes. Comprehensive bi-directional RS-232 communication provides advanced control and diagnostics. About the new amp, VTL says, "Musically, the
Lohengrin embodies our philosophy of honesty and engagement. . . . True to its heritage,
the Lohengrin presents the weight and authority of the original event with grace and
power. The sound is fresh, vibrant, and immersive, drawing listeners deeply into the
music." |
