Alumine Three: Stenheim's Smaller Floorstander

by The Audio Beat | April 12, 2019

he new Alumine Three ($29,995 per pair) is based on Stenheim's established Alumine Five speaker but is less complex and physically smaller.

The Alumine Three is a three-way design that uses four high-efficiency drivers: two 8" woofers, a 5 1/4" midrange and a 1" tweeter. The midrange and tweeter use neodymium magnets for greater efficiency (the Alumine Three is rated at 93dB) and power handling (150 watts continuous and 300 watts on musical peaks). Stated frequency response is 32Hz to 35kHz. With a nominal impedance of 8 ohms and a minimum recommended power of 10 watts, the Alumine Three should be easy to drive, allowing the use of lower-power solid-state or tube amplification.

As with all Stenheim speakers, the cabinet is of special focus. The Alumine Three's cabinet is all machined aluminum and has three separate chambers: two of which (for the tweeter and midrange) are sealed and one (for the bass drivers) loaded with a front-firing laminar flow port. The Alumine Three measures 41 3/8"H x 9 7/8"W x 13"D and weighs 154 pounds.
