Shunyata Research's New Omega Digital Cables

by The Audio Beat | December 5, 2020

hunyata Research's Omega line of digital cables is extensive, perfect for the wide-ranging capabilities of today's very best digital-playback systems. The line includes AES/EBU ($3250 per 1.25-meter length), RCA- and BNC-terminated S/PDIF models ($3000 per 1.25-meter length), USB ($3250 per 1.25-meter length) and Ethernet ($2500 per 1.25-meter length) cables, and a special 50-ohm BNC-terminated cable for separate master clocks from Esoteric ($3000 per 1.25-meter length). All use a geometry that Shunyata calls Precision Matched Impedance. This requires extremely tight tolerances for the conductor surface, dielectric extrusion, and the braided shield; variances for all are minute. To achieve this, the machines used for extrusion and braiding are run at one-quarter speed during the manufacturing process. The result, according to Shunyata, "is better performance through a reduction of cable-induced signal jitter."

The Omega digital cables also introduce the TAP/CMODE Hybrid Module, merging Shunyata's patent-pending TAP technology and CMODE filter into a single hybrid module. TAP reduces electromagnetic polarization distortion, while the CMODE filter reduces common-mode noise that travels across all conductors.

About the Omega line, Shunyata claims "analog-like ease and a palpable background silence that closes the gap between digital and analog systems." All of the Omega digital cables are available now.
