Everest-X: Shunyata Research's New Reference Power Conditioner

by The Audio Beat | June 20, 2025

he Everest-X ($15,000) is Shunyata Research's new top-of-the-line power distributor/conditioner, the product of "decades of research and scientific refinement," according to the company. As with all Shunyata power products, a defining principle of Everest-X's design was the company's proprietary DTCD Analysis, which measures instantaneous current flow through very-low-impedance electrical conductors and contacts. It was used to optimize the design of Everest-X's electrical parts and materials to ensure optimal instantaneous current delivery.

Everest-X features a number of Shunyata's signature technologies packed into one product. Foremost of these is QR/BB, a patented device that provides a local reserve of energy, or Coulomb charge, which mitigates the inductive reactance of the AC power line without the use of coils, transformers or capacitors. HARP was originally developed to address current resonances in speaker cables, but Shunyata has adapted it for power distribution. In the Everest-X, Shunyata says, "the HARP module functions as a current-mode diffraction device, disrupting these resonances to enhance resolution, coherence, and dynamic stability across connected components." Another patented technology, TAPc (Transverse Axial Polarizer, carbon edition), was developed to enhance the performance of Shunyata's reference signal cables. Its evolution has led to a significant reduction in the size of the modules, so they can be used across a broad range of products, including power distributors like Everest-X, power cords, interconnects, digital cables and speaker cables.

The US Everest-X offers eight outlets and four grounding posts on the rear panel of its tall, handsome pyramid-shaped cabinet. The Everest-X outlets and grounding posts are made from solid tellurium copper. They are plated with what Caelin Gabriel, head of Shunyata Research, has described as "a neutral-sounding platinum" to protect the underlying copper.
