Timbre Technology TT-1 repair

September 25, 2025

Marc,

I'm looking for an electronics technician or engineer to find the part numbers for a Timbre Technology TT-1 DAC or schematics to repair this DAC. The transistors have 14 and 16 DIPs or were erased by the manufacturer. There are seven or nine in total. The digital receiver and the D/A converter are CS-8412-CP and CS4328-KP, respectively.

This is a quandary, for a few reasons. First, you've obviously been able to get inside the DAC; as I understand it, it takes a special jig to get into the chassis. As for the parts with erased values, that is not uncommon with high-end products.

I asked David Goldstein, formerly of Timbre Technology, for advice, and here's what he offered.

"Unfortunately, I had a major basement flood a few years ago and lost all the documentation and spare parts.

"However, he may try to contact my ex-partner, John Kukulka in Philadelphia who did the circuit. Just look him up on Google for possible contact info.

"John McCormack, designer and builder of the great Shoreline amps, is owner of Rainbow Electronics in Citrus Heights, CA -- www.rainbowelectronics.net. He can possibly repair the DAC after parts are identified. The reader should take a close-up photo and circle the suspect parts." - Marc Mickelson
