Cryo tubes?

November 8, 2021

Marc,

Do I want tubes with cryo treatment?

Sheldon Simon

Depending on the person you talk to, cryogenic treatment of tubes (and other audio products, including cables) is either necessary, intriguing but unproven, or of no sonic value. For tubes, I would be leery, unless the maker of your equipment actively promotes it, in which case I would buy the tubes from that company. If you're not sure what the company's stance is on cryogenic treatment of tubes, ask. You can also experiment with a purchase, in which case I would suggest starting with inexpensive preamp or amplifier input tubes and not more expensive matched output tubes. -Marc Mickelson
