Following hard on the heels of the well-received BHK Signature 300 amplifiers, PS Audio were showing a prototype of the upcoming partnering preamp (top unit only). Housed in PS Audio’s now-familiar curved aluminum casework, this is a fully balanced hybrid design employing a pair of 12AU7 tubes to feed a MOSFET output stage, the line stage offering five inputs (single ended or balanced) and an internal headphone amplifier. But the real news is the two-stage volume control that combines a classic variable shunt attenuator with a second stage that actually varies the gain of the vacuum tubes.

The BHK Signature preamp should be available in the spring/summer of 2016, although the price is still to be determined.
