Wilson Benesch's Latest Discovery

by The Audio Beat | January 4, 2016

ilson Benesch's Discovery II ($24,950/pair), part of the company's reference line of speakers, replaces the original Discovery, which was one of Wilson Benesch's most successful products. The new speaker, a 2.5-way, represents a unique approach to minimonitor design, placing one of Wilson Benesch's clamshell Tactic II Isobaric Drive Systems in the underside of the enclosure with a tweeter and midrange driver directly above. This unique approach yields an upper limit of 30kHz and bass down to 43Hz from a speaker that's a true minimonitor. The tweeter and midrange were custom-designed and -manufactured by Wilson Benesch. The Discovery II's computer-designed cabinet features a carbon-fiber composite material along with a CNC-machined alloy front baffle.

According to Wilson Benesch, the Discovery II "presents a natural, highly detailed sound with unrivalled dynamics and punch in the bass register."

The Discovery II is available in various high-gloss and real-veneer finishes, each applied by hand by Bentley Motors-trained craftsmen. Shipping will commence this month.
