Analogue Productions Revives the UHQR

by The Audio Beat | December 8, 2017

he debut effort of Analogue Productions' reintroduction of the Ultra High Quality Record (UHQR) will be Jimi Hendrix's Axis: Bold As Love in both stereo and mono. The stereo release will be limited to 5000 copies, while the mono release will be limited to 1500. Both will be a single 33rpm LP and cost $100. A release date hasn't been set at this time, but Analogue Productions is aiming for sometime in late summer 2018.

Originally introduced in the 1980s by JVC Japan, the UHQR is a carefully crafted 200-gram flat-profile LP. Analogue Productions has added a few significant wrinkles to ensure the quality of each LP. These include the use of Clarity vinyl, which is free of any pigments or contaminants, and pressing at Quality Record Pressings on a manual Finebilt press. Every UHQR will be hand-inspected, and only flawless LPs will offered for sale.

Bernie Grundman will do the remastering for the Axis: Bold As Love UHQR from the original analog master tapes. Each copy will be packaged in a deluxe box and include a booklet featuring recording information from the sessions at Olympic Studios in London and an essay written by former Guitar World editor Brad Tolinski. Also included will be information detailing the entire process of making a UHQR and a hand-signed certificate of inspection.

Also expected in 2018 are hybrid SACDs of both Axis: Bold As Love and Are You Experienced?, the 1967 debut release from The Jimi Hendrix Experience. Bernie Grundman will also do the remastering for these SACDs from the original master tapes. Both SACDs will include mono and stereo mixes, and each will cost $35.
