ine Sounds SpA of Milan, Italy, has purchased McIntosh Laboratory of Binghamton, NY, maker of audio and home-theater electronics and speakers for more than 60 years. Owned by Quadrivio, a private equity firm likewise based in Milan, Fine Sounds also owns Sonus Faber, Audio Research Corporation, Wadia Digital and Sumiko, which together account for $70 million in sales and 250 employees worldwide. McIntosh was previously owned by D+M Group.

The deal gives Fine Sounds 100% ownership of McIntosh, which, according to a press release, "is now poised to elevate its brand to even higher acclaim, expand its distribution as well as its reach into new international markets." "This acquisition represents a strategic direction for our company to be a leader in the international luxury audio arena, and to have products that are the best in the world in their category," says Mauro Grange, CEO of Fine Sounds.
