New From Magico: The S7

by The Audio Beat | April 7, 2015

he new addition to Magico's S series is the S7 ($58,000/pair), a three-way speaker that uses new tweeter, midrange and bass drivers that were derived from engineering work done for Magico's M series.

The S7 uses three 10" (25cm) aluminum-cone woofers along with a 6" (15cm) midrange whose cone is formulated from "Arkema Multi-Wall carbon nanotube and XG Sciences C-750 Nanographene," which is said to be 20% lighter and 300% stiffer than previous cone materials. The midrange has its own purpose-built sub-enclosure made of a proprietary polymer material. The S7's 1"  (25mm) "extra-long-excursion" tweeter features a diamond-coated beryllium diaphragm with geometry optimized using Finite Element analysis. The S7's crossover features components from Mundorf in Germany.

The acoustic suspension enclosure of the S7 has curved aluminum side panels that are machined in-house from half-inch-thick aluminum extrusions that are 16" in diameter.

The S7's sensitivity is quoted as 89dB and its impedance is 4 ohms. Recommended amplifier power is 50-1000 watts. The speaker measures 56"H (142cm) x 20"D (48cm) x 25"W (63cm) and weighs 300 pounds.
