Ypsilon's Aelius II ($40,000/pair) is the second-generation version of the hybrid mono amp and has upgrades that "make the signal path more pure," according to Demetris Backlavas of Ypsilon. These include the addition of an input transformer, which allowed the change of the bias scheme for the input tube, which is now an NOS Siemens 8010 (it was a metal-sleeve C3g). "Some other minor changes were done also, like the output binding posts and wiring inside the amps," says Backlavas. Power output remains the same, 200 watts each, and so does the fine, satiny finish.
