You can’t keep a great man down. Having established, built and then sold the highly respected Dynaudio loudspeaker brand, Wilfried Ehrenholz is back -- as the new owner of Peak Consult. At first glance, you might think that little has changed in the Peak Consult product line, but even a short listen will suggest otherwise. The cabinets are constructed in-house, with a 14mm wood sleeve over a 40mm laminated and braced MDF enclosure. Every aspect of the design, inside and out, mechanical and electrical, has been re-examined and in most cases either revised or changed outright.

The company was playing the top-of-the-line El Diablo ($60,000 or €55,000 per pair) with Audionet electronics, and the system was delivering tight, driven dynamics and taut rhythms -- exactly what you’d expect given the combined design DNA. Piano was particularly impressive, with a real sense of attack, poise, weight and placement. Standing a mere 115cm/45” tall, the speaker weighs in at 90kg/200 pounds, so perhaps the musical substance and presence should come as no surprise. The smaller Sinfonia (€45,000 per pair) and Sonora (€25,000 per pair) look equally interesting at their respective price points and suggest that Peak Consult could be well and truly back.
