JBL made a splash at last year's CES by reintroducing the legendary L100. We heard that speaker at length this year, and it sounded thoroughly modern while preserving the original's thumping bass.

JBL stayed with the theme by introducing the 4312G ($2500 per pair) this year, a take on the 4310/4311 studio monitor that found its way into audio systems. It uses JBL drivers, including the JW300SW-8 12" pulp-cone woofer, JM125PC-8 5" polymer-coated pulp-cone midrange, and 054ALMg-1 1" aluminum/magnesium tweeter with waveguide, all in a bass-reflex enclosure with front-firing port. As with the new L100, the 4312G retains the front-panel midrange and treble trim controls.

The 4312G's cabinet is covered in a black wood-grain vinyl, and a removable black cloth grille is standard. The speaker is configured in mirror-imaged pairs, allowing either horizontal or vertical placement.
