EgglestonWorks celebrates the 20th anniversary of its Andra, the company's most successful speaker ever, with the new Viginti ($40,000/pair) -- viginti is Latin for twenty. This new speaker builds on the Andra's general configuration, adding a second woofer and placing one of its midrange drivers above the tweeter. The drivers include a pair of 10" carbon-fiber woofers, a pair of 6" carbon-fiber midranges, and a 1" beryllium-dome tweeter. The speaker uses what EgglestonWorks calls a "unique slot porting system." Sensitivity is 87dB and impedance appears stable at 4 ohms nominal and 3.9 ohms minimum. Each Viginti weighs 255 pounds.

How did the Viginti sound? Muscular and authoritative, yet graceful through the midrange and into the treble. We definitely want to hear more -- and more -- of this speaker.
